Chacchoben Mayan Ruins is the most popular and visited attraction for a day in Costa Maya. It is approximately an hour drive from Costa Maya Port. This site is just a few kilometers from the village of Chacchoben from which it's name derive. The translation of the Mayan word "Chacchoben" refers to "The Place Of The Red Corn". The structures at this site are characterized by large temples and massive platforms dated from 700 AD.

When your cruise ship docks in the port of Costa Maya, embark on a 3.5-hour shore excursion to Chacchoben. The first place to visit in the Bacalar Lagoon is “Cenote Esmeralda”, where you’ll be amazed by the different shades of blue and understand why the Bacalar Lagoon is frequently referred as the 7 colors lagoon. Our next stop is “Cenote Cocalitos”, home of stromatolites, that are known as living stones and are considered the oldest form of life in the planet. The third point to enjoy will be “Black Cenote” which is an open sky cenote and also the deepest point of the lagoon. The final spot to is the Pirate Channel, as you’ll be explained that day, pirates used to enter Bacalar by using this channel to steal local precious wood. We do not have a maximum diving time other than air consumption and no deco limit. Count on us to enjoy your experience to the fullest. Here in Mahahual/Costa Maya we have 5 different underwater landscapes and dive sites among 3 ranges of depths (most of them are between 45 to 90 feet). Diving conditions are friendly and we enjoy an average 90 feet visibility. All our dives are boat dives (time from the jetty: 10 to 15 minutes).
