As I (Albert Coffee, vaccinated) guide you through this magical place, where I had the privilege of participating during the 2004 excavation field season, I'll share what I have gleaned through personal hands-on experience & years of study about ancient Mesoamerica, the legends & wisdom of local people.

I am a graduate of Louisiana State University and federally licensed tour guide. This special tour includes years of documented legends, wisdom & memories of the elders of the ranch communities on and around the historic location. You will hear about each place and its cultural significance as you journey along the path the ancients took to reach the pyramid.

I've taken 20,000+ people on tours since the site opened to the public in 2011. My passion is relating information that is just coming to light in an area recently investigated in an enjoyable way. I hope to see you soon.

The archaeological site of Cañada de la Virgen is located just 25 kilometers West of San Miguel de Allende. Occupied between 540 and 1050 a.d., it is perched upon a small mesa surrounded by canyons and is made up of four patio/pyramid complexes, an ancient artificial pond and a ceremonial causeway covering the 16 hectares that is now government property. Rancho Xotolar is a working ranch that has been in the Morin Ruiz family for over four generations. When coming to San Miguel, many times people come with different expectations, and sometimes finding your way around may be difficult. On this tour we like to welcome the people and introduce them into our city. People will learn abput the colors of Mexico, the magic of the people and the charm of the town. We will have a wonderful walk learning about the city, the history, the architecture and many tips on how to have the best trip while you are here in San Miguel de Allende.

We will begin by preparing some delicious salsas, followed by an authentic and traditional Mexican mole, tasty enmoladas, and mexican rice. You'll be educated on the ingredients, tell you about the culinary and nutritional values, and how to prepare and cook each part of the meal. We are always vegetarian, vegan or gluten-free friendly if that is an interest. We will discuss the history and cultural importance of the Mole and how it used to be the “Food of the Emperors”, reserved only for the upper class of the Mayan and Aztec society. During the lesson you will be enticed to explore your environment: the cozy den with its fireplace and library; and the surrounding courtyard with its organic gardens and gorgeous landscapes. Having prepared the delicious meal, we will sit down and dine, engaging in wonderful conversation. As welcome we will enjoy a pure cacao chocolate drink and plenty of delicious Mexican wine at all time. All while surrounded by a beautiful and tranquil environment.

The event will take place at one of the best local vineyards in the recently named Independence Valley, San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato, Mexico area (Valle de la Independencia). This territory is considered as the cradle of wine in America. The internationally award winning wine is exceptional and the staff is service oriented. The vineyard is surrounded by beautiful landscapes and the Chateau is large with grandiose architecture and filled with exquisite art. After the tour and if all the group agree you can continue your journey by staying to dine at the vineyard's extravagant restaurant, or feel free to walk the grounds of the winery and take in the natural beauty of the landscape.
The winery has the #10 wine in the world according with the famous Baccus Contest, a blend of Nebbiolo and Sangiovese grapes that you can sample in the bar or restaurant.
Note: The green season of the vines is during spring and summer, in winter the plants hibernate.
